A wine club, or wine subscription, is a standing order. You pick a plan, either you or the merchant chooses the bottles, and a box ships on a schedule, charged to your card each time. Clubs differ in how often they ship, how many bottles each box holds, how much say you get over the wines, and how easy it is to skip a box or cancel.
Shipping is where clubs get complicated. State law decides whether a winery or a retailer can ship to you at all, and the Wine Institute lists licensing, tax collection and limits on quantities among the usual conditions. Every delivery needs an adult over 21 to sign in person.
We list club products as the merchants describe them and do not summarize their terms, because terms change and we cannot keep them current. Read the merchant's own club terms before you subscribe. If you mostly drink semi-sweet honey wine, favor a club that lets you choose the style.

How to choose
- How often it ships. Monthly, every other month or quarterly? Check whether you can change the schedule later, and on what day each charge happens.
- How many bottles, and who chooses. Count the bottles per box and work out the price per bottle. For a honey wine drinker, a club that lets you set the sweetness or pick the wines beats a bigger box of dry reds you will not drink.
- How to skip, pause or cancel. Find out whether you can skip or cancel online, how much notice the club needs before the next charge, and whether there is a minimum number of shipments.
- Shipping cost, and whether it reaches you. Check that the club ships to your state before you pay. Wine Spectator counted only 12 states, plus Washington, D.C., open to out-of-state retailers in 2025, against 48 for wineries, so a retailer's club may not reach you where a winery's does.
- Who signs for it. Carriers need an adult over 21 to sign in person, and the signature cannot be waived. If no one is home during the day, ship to a work address.
- What happens to a bottle you dislike. Ask whether the club credits or replaces a bottle you did not enjoy, and whether you can rate wines to steer future boxes.
Prices and notes come from each retailer's product page and change often. We have not tasted every bottle here; the descriptions are the retailer's, condensed. More on how we pick in our methodology.
Frequently asked questions
How do wine clubs work?
You sign up for a plan and the merchant ships a box of wine on a schedule, charging your card each time. Depending on the club, you choose the bottles or the merchant does.
Can I cancel a wine club at any time?
It depends on the club. Terms can include a minimum number of shipments or a notice period before the next charge, so read the cancellation terms on the merchant's site before you join.
Can wine clubs ship to every state?
No. Wine Spectator counted 48 states open to winery shipping by summer 2025 but only 12, plus Washington, D.C., open to out-of-state retailers. A club run by a retailer may not ship to you even where a winery club can.
Do I have to be home for a wine club delivery?
Someone aged 21 or over has to sign in person, and carriers do not allow the signature to be waived. A work address is often easier.
Is a wine club worth it for a honey wine fan?
It can be, if you want to explore grape wines without choosing every bottle. Pick one that lets you set the sweetness or the style, so the box matches what you already enjoy.
